Traffic disruption in Runnymede and Weybridge

We depend on our road network to get to work or school, to access services, and to see our friends and family. When this is disrupted our lives are too, so every measure possible must be used to prevent and minimise unnecessary disruption to our roads.  Congestion not only leads to frustration, but also greater pollution, affecting local air quality

I am working to tackle local traffic delays and disruption, and have today launched a survey to get your views and experiences to help shape this work.

While some of these works are scheduled and licensed by SCC, other ‘emergency’ works can take place at short notice, with residents reporting multiple works in the same location just weeks apart, multiple sets of roadworks affecting alternative routes to the same destination simultaneously, roadworks unattended, and poor quality road repairs or clean up after they have left.

I have been working with National Highways to try to improve diversion routes, and with Surrey County Council to restrict the use of HGVs in inappropriate areas and work towards strengthening the system to hold utility companies to account. It is vital we can use all measures in a co-ordinated way to reduce the delays and disruption drivers too often face.

The Government is also currently consulting on measures to improve how roadworks are managed.  For my response to this I want to know your experiences and suggestions for improvements to make it as representative as possible. Please take a few minutes to complete this survey and help my work to improve our local transport networks.

Reduce air and noise pollution

Air quality maps show that, in Runnymede and Weybridge, the largest impact we face is from our motorways and major A roads. Residents also know there is almost no part of the constituency that is not affected by motorway noise.
