Over recent months Ben Spencer MP has been working with neighbouring MPs Lincoln Jopp and Monica Harding to address serious concerns over river safety. In addition to jointly writing to the Environment Agency regarding concerns over safety and maintenance of the river, they also met in Parliament with councillors and those who have been directly affected, to hear first hand of the issues they had faced and the action they wanted to see to improve safety.
As part of this ongoing work they have now also secured a meeting with the Minister to discuss what further action can be taken to ensure safety is maintained, particularly on the River Thames.
Dr Ben Spencer MP said:
To date constituents have concerned about changes in current and speed due to lack of dredging, poor signage, lack of maintenance of assets, and sunken boats and other dangerous obstacles not being removed. This meeting is a real opportunity to raise our concerns and seek action, which has sadly been lacking from the Environment Agency.
We are due to meet with the Minister next month. Ahead of this I would encourage anyone who has direct experience of river safety issues and would like to raise concerns to contact me at [email protected]
