Yesterday, I submitted my response to Surrey County Council’s consultation on an experimental prohibition of HGVs in Weybridge. In my response, I set out my very strong support for the proposed trial ban, which encompasses Brooklands Road and other key residential streets. I am pleased that Cllr Tim Oliver and Surrey County Council are taking this forward.
As your MP, my mission is to keep Runnymede and Weybridge moving. Reducing noise and air pollution, and dealing with HGVs using small roads inappropriately, is an important part of this mission.
The disruption caused by large numbers of HGVs on our roads is one of the issues on which I am frequently contacted by constituents. I have been working with Cllr Tim Oliver of SCC in recent months to flag community concerns and support SCC’s work on exploring solutions to this ongoing problem.
My consultation response highlights the key local challenges that residents have raised with me in relation to HGV traffic, ranging from congestion and noise pollution to safety fears where HGVs are using roads which are inappropriate. You can view my full consultation response below.
While the focus of this consultation is a trial ban aimed at bringing relief to the areas of Weybridge which are most affected by HGV traffic, I have reinforced in my response that this is a challenge experienced by towns across the constituency.
I have reiterated my ongoing support for SCC looking at solutions to mitigate the situation for residents living around other HGV hotspots. I encourage constituents to continue to contact me where they are experiencing problems arising from HGV traffic so that I can provide SCC with a picture of the areas worst affected beyond Weybridge.
