A new national lockdown has been announced to combat growing numbers of covid cases and increased transmission rates. These measures mean that everyone is being asked to stay at home, except for legally exempt reasons such as shopping for essential items, exercise and medical appointments, including covid vaccinations and tests or if it is not safe to remain at home.

Those who are clinically vulnerable are advised to begin shielding, and everyone who can work from home should do so. Schools will also move to remote learning for all pupils in primary and secondary education, apart for vulnerable children and the children of key workers. Full details are available at: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/national-lockdown-stay-at-home

Many people are concerned over Coronavirus and what it means for them, their families and communities. This page has been designed to provide up-to-date information, guidance and advice.

For information on the latest covid restrictions please see here.

One of the most common questions I receive is what is the situation locally, and how concerned should we be. The situation is changing quickly, therefore we all need to be aware of and follow the restrictions in our area in order to protect those most vulnerable in our communities.

To help inform constituents, the links below contain local information, including covid monitoring and data as well as information about local services and support. I know many people are also concerned what this may mean for their livelihoods. Information on government support is also available below, but if you are personally facing difficulties please do not hesitate to contact me.

Protecting our healthcare capacity is the immediate priority in order to help not only those affected by covid, but maintain all other health provision too. But this does come at a cost, especially to those most vulnerable in our society. The support and innovation seen throughout this year in response to the challenges created by the pandemic have truly been inspirational. We have fantastic communities supported by great services, and no one should have to struggle to find support.

If you or someone you know need help, whether through healthcare, accessing local services, financial support or any other means, please do contact either the NHS, local authority or myself. Contact details for all are available in the links above.

Best wishes,

Dr Ben Spencer MP
